Metrocrest Medical Services, a 501‑(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, was founded in 1988 through the concern of interested parties to provide a well organized, well run medical control and continuing education program for North Dallas area paramedic services. These services have proliferated as a result of the rapid population growth in this geographic area. The interested parties included Metrocrest Hospital Authority (MHA), Metroplex Emergency Physician Associates, P.A. (MEPA), RHD Memorial Medical Center (RHD), and Trinity Medical Center (TMC).
An additional concern of this group was to provide ongoing, convenient, readily available, high quality and reasonably priced Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) courses as sanctioned by the American Heart Association (AHA), to the paramedic services, as well as all area hospital personnel, nursing and medical staffs. Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) courses have also been added to the curriculum.
Metrocrest Medical Services other mission has been the initial education of Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. From 1988 to 2001, Metrocrest trained hundreds of personnel from area Fire Departments, Ambulance Services, and students throughout the community, in basic and advanced pre-hospital medicine. In January 2002, Brookhaven College took over the EMT and Paramedic education program from Metrocrest and continues the program under the auspices of the Dallas County Community College District.
Today Metrocrest Medical Services continues to provide Medical Control and Continuing Education for EMS agencies throughout Texas. With advanced treatment protocols, a comprehensive quality improvement program, and focused, interactive CE for EMS personnel, Metrocrest provides EMS agencies with the tools to ensure excellent pre-hospital care for their citizens.
